5 Things You Need to Make Your Workouts More Amazing

We know how hard it is to stay motivated while hitting the gym. But thanks to some new innovations, it may be now easier than you think. So before you schedule your next workout, see which exercise tools may give you the extra boost you need.

1. A fitness tracker
You’ve seen them all over the Internet, magazines, and probably even on your neighbor’s arm. There are dozens of affordable fitness trackers on the market that range from bracelet-like devices (Jawbone and Basis) to ones that are worn on your clothes (Misfit and Athos). FitBit, one of the most popular brands and one of our favorites, has a new FitBit One that we like ($88, amazon.com). It clips onto your shirt or pants and tracks everything from steps, distance traveled, and stairs climbed, to calories burned and hours slept. The latest version works as a silent alarm by vibrating and waking you up without disrupting your REM cycle, and has an improved, vibrant display.

2. Moisture-wicking and cooling clothing
If you hate feeling hot, sweaty, and just plain uncomfortable, many fitness brands have developed new clothes that can keep you cool and dry. We like Nike’s Dri-FIT Touch line (starting at $35, nike.com), which combines lightweight fabric with its Dri-FIT Technology to wick away sweat. The collection also features T-shirts and tanks with bonded seams that offer minimal chafing.

3. Sneakers with added memory foam
Give your feet some relief with memory foam sneakers, like the latest from Skechers (starting at $65, skechers.com). The comfy molding material adds extra cushion to your insoles to help relieve pressure for an even better workout.

4. A high-performing sports bra
Throw your old ratty one in the trash. With loads of new fabrications, adjustable straps, and even fun colors, you can find an affordable sports bra that does everything you need and more. The best part, we tested a few. For a smaller chest, stick with Calvin Klein Performance ($34, amazon.com). Nike Pro (starting at $24,amazon.com) is best for C and D cups, as well as Moving Comfort (starting at $33,amazon.com).

5. An exercise app
You know about the tried-and-true fitness apps (Nike’s running app for one), but there are newer ones that can show you new moves you didn’t even know you could do. Hatha Yoga ($9.99, itunes.apple.com) may be pricey, but it’s basically a yoga studio built into your phone. Not your thing? Consider downloading Daily Workouts ($3.99, itunes.apple.com), which is full of 5- to 30-minute-long workouts that you can customize for your level and needs.
