A Friendly Competition or an Obsession?

Scale

On October 14, 2010 I started two weight loss competitions.

One was affiliated with some Facebook peopleand the other was a competition at work.

They ran from October 14-January 14.  I have consistently maintained first place in both competitions.  There were periods of time when I would fall into second place but that would just motivate me more to get back into first.

This entire three month period, I have been 100% committed to winning both of these competitions.  What I didn’t realize is that both competitions would consume my daily thoughts and actions.  The competition almost has become an obsession.  There were sleepless nights, skipped meals, and hours of endless conversation with my poor husband on what I should or shouldn’t do in order to win.

I just have to wonder, “Where does this competitive nature come from?”

In asking my mother, she basically said I am screwed.  Both sides of my family are very competitive so that is just an inherent trait that I must now live with.

The good news is, I only have one week left.  I am currently in first place in both competitions and have every intention of winning.

What I will walk away with is $1900.00 and losing a total of around 26-30 pounds in three months.

I have never worked so hard for anything in my life.  I have never eaten better or worked out more.  I am running now.  I have never been a runner.  My habits have changed and that is what I was hoping for when I joined the competition almost three months ago.

I have to keep telling myself that even if I don’t win the money, look at what I have won for my health.

However, I would very much like to win.  Stay tuned…
